Most leaders speak first in meetings.
It feels like direction. In practice, it ends the discussion. Once the most senior person in the room has given a view, most people quietly adjust theirs to match.
Try speaking last.
It is harder than it sounds. You sit with silence. You hear ideas you disagree with. You let a junior colleague make the point you were about to make, and you let them have the credit.
The decision usually improves. So does the trust.
In your next meeting, ask the question. Then wait.
