Beware the Good Inspection

A strong inspection report is a great day for a school.

It can also be the start of a slow decline.

The report arrives, the banner goes up, and the urgency drains out of the building. Projects stall. The questions stop. Everyone relaxes into the version of the school the inspectors saw.

The report is a snapshot of one week. It says very little about next year.

After a good outcome, the most useful meeting is the one where you ask what the inspectors missed. You know where the weak spots are. So do your staff.

Celebrate. Then get back to work on them.
